A Curse and Consequences

by Keith Brenton
So the LORD God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this, cursed are you above all the livestock and all the wild animals! You will crawl on your belly and you will eat dust all the days of your life. And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.”~ Genesis 3:14-15

In what many regard as the first prophecy of reconciliation between God and mankind and the defeat of evil, the Lord completes His curse upon the serpent – but He does not curse His children. To both the man and the woman, He pronounces consequences – but His curse is reserved for the ground: its yield for them, and its role as their tomb. Even as He evicts them from the idyllic garden, He clothes their shame until the day mankind can be clothed with Christ (Galatians 3:27).
